HEALTHY EATING
Healthy eating is a vital part of good health. After all, the major causes
of death in Australia, heart disease, stroke, certain cancers, non-insulin dependant diabetes and obesity, are all associated
with the food we eat. Calisthenics Victoria acknowledges that healthy eating can have an impact on our health and that the
provision of healthy foods will contribute to better health for all. CVI is committed to enusring a healthy envionment for
all those associated with our organisation and will ensure that:
- All CVI competitions will promote healthy food choices.
- Caterers used for all events / activities must be able to provide a variety of healthy food choices at competitive
prices.
- That healthy food choices will be available
at all competitions, functions, meetings and activities where food is provided.
- Promotion of the enjoyment of healthy eating and the role of food in relation to health.
- That healthy food choices will be displayed more prominently than other
foods.
SMOKEFREE POLICY
Every registered Calisthenic Club in Victoria has signed an agreement with CVI to promote and abide by CVI's
Smokefree Policy. CVI recognises that not only is environmental tobacco smoke hazardous to the health of non-smokers, it deems
that Club Coaches, officials and senior members of Clubs, should be aware that they are role models to junior members. Briefly,
the policy states:
- All Club facilities should
be 100% smokefree.
- Clubs should provide a smoking
area outside their facility, away from view of the facility.
- All
official Club functions (including dinners, fund-raising events, meetings and social occassions), should be 100% smokefree.
- All club members and volunteers should refrain from
smoking whilst acting in an official capacity.
- Club
members should refrain from smoking whilst in Club uniform.
- Club
Coaches will refrain from smoking whilst acting in an official capacity.
STRENGTH, WARM-UP
& FLEXIBILITY
As each year passes,
Calisthenics demands greater speed in the execution of movements and a greater degree of flexibility. Without the required
strength in the limbs, many of the gymnastic movements cannot be physically executed, therefore, the first step is to build
the required strength and flexibility to minimise running the risk of injury. To do this, pupils must ensure that they participate
in a warm-up session before each practice or performance no matter what age the pupil.
A Warm up
and Strengthening video and manual has been produced to assist pupils with their regular warm up, strength and stretch routine.
This video will assist pupils with their flexibility and muscle control and is available from the C.V.I. office.
Calisthenics
is aimed at improving health and fitness. All coaches are accredited with the Australian Sports Commission. Sports injury
prevention information is provided to all clubs and pupils on a regular basis, via the C.V.I. Clublink newsletter, by Physiotherapist
