Active After School Communities

Active After-School Communities (AASC) program is a federally funded initiative, supported by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), providing school aged children with free access to organised sport in the after school time slot.  CVI have been proud providers of the AASC program since it’s inception in 2006.

During a Calisthenics AASC program, students are introduced to the basic skills associated with free exercises, rods, flags (instead of clubs) and dance, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Routines performed to current music, games and skill based activities are just some of the highlights in this highly popular program.

It’s a fantastic way to for schools to create a link to their local Calisthenic club, and a great opportunity to keep kids active in an enjoyable environment!

All AASC coaches are Community Coach Accredited by the ASC and hold current Working With Children Checks.

Community Coach Training Program

The ASC’s Community Coach Training Program (CCTP) is a requirement of all AASC coaches.  The program equips coaches with skills and knowledge to make their program run smoothly and to maximise the opportunity for children to transition from the AASC program into a local sporting club.  Centred around their “Game Sense” approach to coaching and a “Play For Life” philosophy, this interactive course covers 5 modules including:

1. Active After-School Communities program overview
2. Communication and Behaviour Management*
3. Safe Environments*
4. Nutrition and Well-being*
5. Planning, Preparing, Delivering and Reviewing Playing for Life activity sessions

Courses are held quarterly, coinciding with the school holiday periods.  This is the first step in representing CVI as an AASC coach.  And best of all, it's FREE!

*Modules 2, 3 and 4 can be completed online and level one coaches can receive recognition of prior learning for these three modules.
