Winner of the Victorian Sport Awards "2024 Sport and Active Recreation Initiative of the Year" award!!

In 2024, Calisthenics Victoria introduced a new Solo/Duo/Trio stream – CaliStars Solos!

This dedicated stream is designed for performers living with physical and/or intellectual disabilities who wish to compete in solos but feel that the current competitive environment does not adequately support their needs. It offers a more supportive and accessible space where performers can showcase their talents with support and dignity.

Aligned with our Strategic Plan, we are committed to ensuring that "everyone has the opportunity to participate in Calisthenics in such a way that matches their preferences". As part of our Inclusion goal, we aim to increase the participation of people with disabilities—both physical and intellectual—in the sport of Calisthenics.

To support our inclusion goal and ensure equitable access to Calisthenics, this stream offers tailored adjustments for performers entering the CaliStars stream. These adjustments include:

  • Sensory room access for regulation and comfort
  • Adjusted lighting and sound to reduce sensory overload
  • Hearing loop capability for enhanced audio accessibility
  • Allocated stage familiarisation time for each performer
  • Side or onstage prompting to support performance confidence
  • Venue selection considerations to ensure physical accessibility and avoid overcrowding between sections

These adjustments are designed to create a welcoming and empowering environment where every performer can participate in a way that suits their individual needs and preferences.

In 2024, CaliStars was the winner of the Victorian Sport “Sport and Active Recreation Initiative of the Year” award. This award recognises the work of individuals, clubs, teams, groups or organisations who have succeeded in enabling more people to participate in active recreation during the 2024 calendar year.

And in 2025 CaliStars was a finalist in the Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation “Active Recreation and Leisure Initiative of the Year” award. Both Narre Warren Solo Competition and Aspire Solo Competition have done a fabulous job in 2025 hosting the CaliStars stream. These competitions have gone above and beyond in fulfilling the values in which Calisthenics Victoria aims to uphold; Community, Connection, Confidence and Courage.

Stay tuned for more details on this exciting initiative in 2026!

Stories from our Community

"I just wanted to send my sincere and heartfelt thank you for this weekends CaliStars event. As a mum to two special needs girls, they have never felt comfortable at the thought of competing in the regular calisthenics competitions or recreational stream, so this weekend was their very first time on stage in a competition setting. To have their coaches by their side and options of being able to change things up if there were any meltdowns or wobbly emotional moments meant the world to me as a parent, thank you. I’m looking forward to future CaliStars competitions and I have no doubt that word will spread and numbers will grow astronomically in years to come. Thank you again!" - Anonymous
